Witch Reads Weekly – September 3rd

img_1243

When I started this blog I knew books would be a focus of the show because I am an avid reader, and love witchy books especially. I never imagined how much people would come to follow my reviews and want to talk so much about the books I’m reading! I get messages all the time in between reviews asking what I’m reading or for recommendations, so HERE FRIENDS, is what I’m reading!

I often have a few books going at a time, including a monthly Book Club of Shadows pick, books I’m reading for research on upcoming interviewees, and stuff I’m reading just for myself.

I’d love to know what you guys are reading right now too! Leave it in the comments, or use the hashtag #WitchReads on sunday afternoons to share what you’re reading!

If you’re a goodreads user, feel free to follow me there and recommend great books on witchcraft, feminism, fat politics, and social justice!

Magical Housekeeping: Simple Charms & Practical Tips for Creating a Harmonious Home
really liked it

game-changers, ooh-hooh-witchay-woman, and currently-reading, and witch-n-bitch

This is an old favourite of mine, and I’ve loved it since before I even read it. This book single-handedly got me back into practicing witchcraft and spirituality on a daily basis. When the members of the Witch n’ Bitch requested a book on home-based magick for the month of September, this was an easy choice. I highly recommend it to everyone!

Star Magic: The Wisdom of the Constellations for Pagans & Wiccans
it was amazing

This was the Book Club of Shadows pick for August, and I’m still working through it! What a cool, and interesting, way to harness the energy of nature. Star Magic is very powerful, still, quiet, and solitary. There’s a lot in here you can do with a group, but Star Magic all feels very personal to me. It’s something you do in the stillness of night, on your own, and you use it to look into your own spirituality and self. It’s absolutely beautiful.
Old Style Conjure: Hoodoo, Rootwork, & Folk Magic

I am absolutely loving this book already! It’s very honest, straight forward, and shows so much reverence to the ancestors of those who (forcibly) created conjure in the United States and Caribbean. If you’ve ever wanted to learn the truth and roots of Hoodoo and (no pun intended) rootwork, which are so trendy right now, this is an amazing place to start.
Mudras - Yoga in Your Hands

This is such an interesting subject! This year I pledged to be more open to some new age spiritual practices that have health benefits, like yoga. As much as I’m enjoying yoga, I do live with a lot of physical pain and some days I find myself wishing I could do yoga without doing yoga, you know? Mudras have been super interesting to learn about and try. I’ve been doing one I really like before bed and It’s made a huge difference in how long it takes me to fall asleep.
