“Vanderbeck, a victim of sexual assault, saw the group hex as an opportunity to not just punish Turner, but to support other victims. “The victim didn’t get justice, neither did I and neither did a ton of other women and men, and there’s so little you can do to let them know you’re thinking of them and you believe them and that you’re behind them.” ”
“It felt good that there was something that I could do about my feelings of anger and helplessness about this case specifically,” says Paige Vanderbeck, a.k.a. The Fat Feminist Witch, a Windsor, Ont.-based witch and tarot card reader who participated in the hex. ”It also felt good to part of a community who felt the same way I did and felt compassion for the survivor of the assault. It felt good to be surrounded by like-minded people.”
“I couldn’t be a witch if I didn’t believe I was powerful and worthy of achieving my dreams and goals or that energy I put out there won’t bear any fruit,” she said. Likewise, I don’t think I could be a successful woman if I didn’t believe that women are powerful and worthy of achieving success on their terms without having to apologize for it. For me, that all comes from the same place.”
Let’s work together!
I love doing interviews (on your show or mine!), sharing books and indie witch products, reviewing tarot and oracle decks, and just sharing the voices of other witches. Send me an email and let’s be friends!
