"Let's begin with what makes this book special - the fact that cursing, binding, jinxing and otherwise casting "baneful magic" (I love how poetic that is tbh) is a rarely touched-upon subject in books for modern witches. This book covers everything from the different words for this type of magic, to common methods and ingredients, ethical considerations, and reversing hexes and curses. She doesn't shy away from including classic ingredients like the witch's own urine, but there are plenty of spells for most purposes and the reader can decide what they're comfortable with. I hope you all have a wonderful and blessed first day of spring! I’m unfortunately bundled up with the flu so I have no Secular Witch’s Guide for this sabbat today. Sorry friends!
Here’s a ritual I wrote for Ostara last year that focuses on the bees. I really like to focus on the seasonal changes around this time and most of the magick I do revolves around animals and the environment. I also like to celebrate the day outside and even do things like picking up trash in a local park if the weather allows.
How do you celebrate the Vernal Equinox?
Sure, bunnies are cute and chocolate eggs are delicious, but spring is about more than just fertility and baby animals – it’s about flowers. Flowers everywhere are popping up out of the sleepy winter ground, or blooming and dotting the world with a little colour. You may only have snowbells or daffodils now, but soon the trees will be green and the ground dotted with all the colours of nature. Once those pretty yellow dandelions start to decorate your lawn you’ll know it’s honey bee season. (Dandelions are one of the first flowers honey bees drink from once they shake off the winter blues!)
Honey bees are, unfortunately, a dying breed. Pesticides, human encroachment on wild land, having grassy lawns instead of gardens, and once more with feeling PESTICIDES have put us in a dangerous situation with our honey bees. These busy little critters pollinate not just pretty flowers, but…
